Maplewood Local Schools is the top-ranked district in Trumbull County-and one of the top in the state- based on the 2013-2014 Ohio State Report Cards that were released on Friday.
With A's all around- including in the performance index, indicators met, and annual measurable objectives- Maplewood is the only school district in Trumbull County to receive A's in those top catagories. The school district maintained its high ranking from last year, when it was also among the top school districts in the state.
State data schools that 37 out of 610 districts received an A for their performance index, which measures student achievement and awards points for higher passing scores on state standardized tests.
The majority- 434 districts- received a B. No schools received an F.
Bloomfield, Champion, Girard, and Lordstown and Weathersfield all received A's for indicators met and B's for performance index.
However, they varied when it came to annual measurable objectives, with Bloomfield, Girard, and Weathersfield earning A's, Lordstown bringing in a B and Champion fishing with a C.
Warren City Schools came in last with a D in performance index and F's for indicators met and annual measurable objectives.
Other Trumbull schools fell between, most with B's and C's in performance index and indicators met.
The report cards also measure progress and graduation rate.
State Superintendent Richard Ross explained that some districts and schools are seeing lower grades in certain areas of their state report cards this year because Ohio has strengthened its rating system.
The Ohio Department of Education released the data Friday morning after winter school closings delayed report card preparation. In the past, report cards typically were released in late August.
School officials use the information to see how well students are performing and to identify improvement areas as they start a new school year.
The state says 2014 report cards eventually will detail grades for 10 measures, including performance index and graduation rate.
